Tokyo: Aruji reinforces the partnership with SI Media

When a broadcaster decides to relocate while maintaining the same workflow and technology provider, even in a market rich with alternatives, it is clear that trust has been built over time and that the customer has evolved into a true partner.

This is the case of a long-standing Japanese customer that has recently reconfirmed SI Media, together with Ideal Systems, acting locally as system integrator. During the relocation process, the customer not only confirmed their commitment, but also expanded the existing Master Control Room system.

The project involves strengthening the existing 32-channel redundant playout system, which has been operating with SI Media automation for over ten years. The infrastructure can now support a significant increase in capacity while reducing the necessary hardware.

The project goals

The project was driven by very concrete requirements:

  1. renewing and optimising the hardware for the new site;
  2. preserving a well-established and proven operational workflow;
  3. improving the productivity of the playout system;
  4. ensuring full operational continuity throughout the transition.

Rather than changing the way of working, the goal was to replicate and reinforce it by reducing the number of servers required through targeted optimisation of the available resources.

The implemented solution

The new system has been designed to manage all 32 channels, with the capacity for future expansion. Each playout server can now handle up to eight simultaneous signals, including:

  • four playout channels;
  • integrated CG for each channel;
  • dedicated live pass-through for each channel.

Investment sustainability has also been achieved by evolving the previous configuration, which was based on a combination of hot backup (1:1) and multi-channel cold backup (1:N).
The infrastructure has now been fully migrated to a clone-based 1:1 backup architecture for all 32 channels and live signals.

A smooth transition

The move to the new facility was managed through a progressive migration strategy.
All the new hardware was installed and configured at the new site, creating a fully parallel system alongside the existing one.
The system can only be brought into production once full validation has been completed.
Each group of channels is scheduled to go live at the most appropriate time for the broadcaster, ensuring that there is no impact on on-air operations.

The result is a more robust, higher-density Master Control Room, ready to support the broadcaster in the years ahead. For SI Media, this project represents a long-term partnership, built on expertise, transparency, and a genuine sense of involvement in our customers’ development projects.
